Biography

Seungmo Park has a longstanding interest in representing reality and human visual perception by creating intricately detailed facimilies of his subjects through unusual materials. His work demonstrates pioneering achievements in working with stainless steel and in the exploration human form. Working in both wall and standing sculpture, Park’s visual style is instantly recongnizable. His photorealistic works, which seem computer-generated, are in fact hand-crafted through cutting layers of wire mesh or wire. The effect creates amazing depth from the transparent works, with the highlights shining through the work from behind and the shadows created through the density of the mesh.

Born in South Korea, Seungmo Park received his BFA at Dong-A University in Pusan, Korea in 1998. Park’s work have been collected and exhibited by numerous institutions world-wide including his solo exhibition at The Dennos Museum Center, Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum and group exhibitions at Saatchi Gallery, the Museum of Arts and Design (2011, New York, NY), the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, Gwangju Museum of Art, the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, Fairmont Bar Al Bahr, Pohang Art Center , Hangaram Art Museum, Insa Art Center, Ansan Arts Center and Albemarle Gallery.
