Nemo Jantzen is a graphic designer and fine artist known for exploring the dialogue of narrative tropes in an image-soaked, contemporary environment. After studying art and design at the RTO Art Academy in Rotterdam, he traveled the world, further developing his technique and style as a fine artist, and worked several years as a graphic designer and billboard artist in Antwerp, Belgium. Later Nemo settled down in Spain where he dedicated his career to the making and selling of fine art. Jantzen has since exhibited to high acclaim and has sold his work in galleries throughout Europe and the United States. His work can be found in many renowned private and public collections around the world. In addition, Jantzen has been presented at numerous international art-fairs in London, Amsterdam, Singapore, New York, and Miami. Jantzen is currently operating from his studios in both Barcelona and New York in order to stay abreast of the changing contemporary art world and keep his work innovative and fresh.
His early works depict pop-inspired imagery creating new contexts from photojournalism and advertising by placing highly detailed and enlarged objects out of their environment. Successive shows moved on to explore cinematic stills as the source of a visually collective consciousness. The incorporation of the vocabulary of cinematography and the expediency of digital photography serves as inspiration for these works. In his latest body of work, Jantzen goes beyond telling a one-image story and depicting a voyeuristic look into another reality. By carefully selecting photographic images by color and theme, Nemo takes Neo-pointillism to the next level by exploring a collective unconscious. Hundreds of images depicting moments, personal experiences and cinematographic scenes are encapsulated in crystal spheres and come together to form large compositions. The resulting portraits reflect an idealized world filtered through the demands of the eye of the beholder.
