A visionary artist who transforms perception into experience, Jose Margulis constructs layered, kinetic sculptures that shift with every angle — challenging the boundaries between truth, movement, and meaning.
Jose Margulis explores how courage, empathy, and kindness shape human perception, revealing the fluid and subjective nature of truth. These qualities influence how we experience the world, continuously forming and reshaping our beliefs. This exploration lies at the heart of his artistic practice, conveyed through layered structures, shifting viewpoints, and the dynamic interplay of light and space.
Margulis begins by digitally constructing three-dimensional forms, which he then deconstructs into meticulously cut layers of acrylic and other materials. These components are assembled on canvases, mounted on pedestals, or suspended in space—creating works that transform as the viewer moves. Light becomes an active force, interacting with color, texture, and transparency to animate each piece, much like ink revealing an image.
At its core, Margulis’s work is an inquiry into perception. His compositions are intentionally kinetic and non-static, evolving with the viewer’s movement and perspective. This shifting nature reflects the transient and often subjective ways in which meaning is shaped by context, assumptions, and bias. Through these transformations, Margulis invites us to consider the delicate tension between what we perceive and what we accept as truth.
A kinetic sculptor of color and form, Jose Margulis fuses geometry and emotion into vivid, shifting works that invite viewers to question what they see — and feel.
Jose Margulis is a contemporary artist whose practice merges abstract geometric, kinetic, and conceptual art into strikingly dynamic visual experiences. Known for his intuitive approach to design and composition, Margulis explores themes of duality, unity, and emotional resonance through vivid color, layered structures, and recurring motifs. His work invites viewers into a perceptual dialogue—where motion, emotion, and meaning intersect.
Margulis has exhibited widely in galleries and international art fairs, with both solo and group exhibitions highlighting the technical precision and conceptual depth of his work. A notable milestone in his career is the forthcoming acquisition of his work by the Erarta Museum in St. Petersburg, one of the most prominent contemporary art institutions in Russia. Continually evolving, his practice balances a meticulous process with an openness to creative discovery, resulting in art that challenges how we see and feel.
