Overview
"All life on earth is connected by an invisible string." -  Kang Dong Hyun

Kang Dong Hyun is known for his sculptures that take inspiration from forms of nature, in both subject and composition. He carefully assembles his delicate metal branch-like lattice, to create sculptures that possess the appearance of metallic shrubbery.

Kang Dong Hyun is a Korean artist that works with steel and urethane paint to create animal sculptures in abstract: flora as fauna. Some of the works maintain the animals’ original silhouettes while others let their wildness take over– mountains and trees sprouting from the backs of the animals. They are freestanding sculptures that can be done in various colors and will always incorporate dynamic, natural forms.
Biography

The "Forest of Co-existence" is Korean metal sculptor Donghyun Kang's principal series of works, where he assembles his delicate metal branch-like lattice, to create sculptures that possess the appearance of metallic shrubbery.

His sculptures take inspiration from forms of nature, in both subject and composition, expressing themes of one's relationship and interconnectedness to the earth. He believes that all life on earth began from the same source, and hence has an inherent relationship to one another whether visible or not.

The stainless steel rods that Kang uses create spaces inside and outside the work, space in the larger room is filled, but hollow space within the piece itself is also created-- another relationship and example of co-existence.

While creating these pieces, Kang constantly meditates over the numerous relationships that he is exploring and creating, shaping what the word means to him.

Donghyun Kang is recognised as a key player in the sculptural field of Asia, participating in exhibitions Korea, Japan, and Singapore. His skill has been celebrated through various awards, including clinching top prizes at the Seongsan Art Competition and Gyeongsangnam-do Art Exhibition.
